Dear Jane-Marie,

Hello! This is always the time of year when I find myself trying to figure out what to change in my home. I don't necessarily have to change anything - it's not like I still have the Christmas tree up or anything - but I have Spring Fever! But I don't have a lot of time either. So many things pop up on our calendars in the Spring. Here are some time-saving tips for this month - maybe then you can get to that list of things you want to change. Read on . . .
Sincerely,

3 Reasons It May Be Better to Reupholster
|
A sign of the times . . .
Many people have been inquiring about reupholstering their current pieces rather than purchasing new. It can definitely save you time from having to go out and look for a new sofa that you would have to break in. On a recent project, we were able to take 5 pieces that had great bones and give them new life with new fabrics. For the teak chairs, some new webbing and new seat foam also helped extend their life.
. . . Before . . .
. . . After
If your piece falls into any of the categories listed below, it would be well worth getting a quote to reupholster it:
- It is an antique or heirloom or a sentimental piece (such as Grandfather's office chair or maybe it's just about the most comfortable sofa you've ever sat in in your life and you love it's dimensions).
- It is a quality piece with 8-way hand-tied springs and the frame is "glued and screwed" and made of solid hardwood. If you are unsure about this an upholsterer can inspect your piece and let you know.
- It might need some repair work (on the springs or maybe some new seat foam), but it is a classic style that is still seen in new pieces on the market.
Note: By all means, if you choose a low grade fabric for your current piece, you will regret your decision every time you look at the piece. Ensure that the fabric is durable and will work with your furniture's style by consulting a pro.
By reupholstering, you save the landfill from one more piece of furniture, you save time by not having to search for a new sofa and you can get your new fabric Nanotexed so that your kids can't destroy this one!
