4 Ways to Save Money While You Improve Your Home
  • Minnesota Fix-Up Fund:  Offers loans at below market interest rates to homeowners.  Eligible projects include interior or exterior improvements and general remodeling. 
    • Maximum loan amount is $35,000, interest rate is 5.99%, maximum term is 20 years
    • Eligible to those with annual household income of $96,500 or less
  • Home Energy Loan Program:  Offers low interest loans to homeowners that want to make energy improvements to their properties.  Improvements include storm windows, storm doors, furnaces, boilers, air conditioning, insulation & water heaters.
    • Maximum loan amount is $10,000, interest rate is 5.99%, maximum term is 5 years
    • Eligible to all who own property (no max income limit!)
    • Note:  Property must have been built prior to 5/1/89
  • MHFA Rehabilitation Loan (click link & scroll down to "Rehabilitation Loan Program"):  Offers zero percent deferred loan up to $15k in order to make permanent repairs to owner-occupied homes.
    • Household gross annual income must be at or below 30% of the area median income.  The loan is forgiven if the homeowner remains in the home for 20 years.
  • Obama Tax Credits:  Qualifying products purchased between 1/1/09 & 12/31/10 are eligible for a tax credit equal to 30% of the product cost with a maximum rebate of $1,500 total.  Products include, but are not limited to, HVAC, roofing, water heaters, windows, doors, insulation and more.
